When people talk about GPS tracking, what comes to mind is navigation in your car or personal tracking devices for walkers and hikers. However, GPS tracking devices often act as life saving essentials in high risk environment such as the military, marine and aid work situations.

In extreme situations such as climbing Everest, GPS tracking could be used to help keep a track of people climbing the mountain. Although people usually combat the ascent in teams, it may not be difficult for someone to get left behind or lost on the trail.
